Working with Word Lists
Word Lists are curated sets of vocabulary focused on a specific topic (like "Ordering Coffee" or "Animals"). They are perfect for targeted study sessions and often include helpful images to aid with memory and recall.
Finding Word Lists
You can find all available lists in the "Word Lists" category of the main Browse Section.
The Word List Action Bar
At the top of the page, you'll find the Word List Action Bar. It contains powerful study tools and one special feature unique to Word Lists: Focus Definitions.
Unique Feature: Focus Definitions
Many Chinese words have multiple meanings. The Focus Definitions button is a special toggle that helps you reduce cognitive load by showing only the definitions most relevant to the list's topic.
Focus Mode ON (Default)
By default, you will only see the specific definition(s) chosen for the list's theme. This is ideal for focused learning.
Focus Mode OFF
Toggling it off reveals *all* known definitions for each word. This is great for advanced learners who want to explore the full context of a word.
The action bar also gives you one-click access to all of our core study activities for the words currently in the list.
- Start a Word Review Activity for focused, deliberate study.
- Launch a Flashcards Activity to practice active recall.
- Begin a Test Activity to check your knowledge.
- Instantly generate a Handwriting Practice Sheet for offline practice.
