The Word Review Activity
The Word Review activity is a focused, deliberate way to study the words in any given list. Unlike flashcards, which test your recall, this activity presents each word's full details sequentially, allowing you to absorb the information without pressure.
It's the perfect tool for when you are learning a new set of words for the first time or want to reinforce your understanding of their pronunciation and character structure.
How to Start a Word Review
You can launch a Word Review session from any page that contains a supported word list. Look for the "Review" button in the action bar at the top of the list.
You can find this button on pages like:
- The HSK Board
- Your personal "My Words" page
- The vocabulary tab within a Lesson
- Any individual Word List page
Using the Word Review Screen
The Word Review screen is designed to be clean and simple, letting you focus entirely on the word.
The screen is made up of a few key parts:
-
Image (If Available): For some vocabulary, especially on dedicated Word Lists, a helpful image may be displayed at the top to aid with recall.
-
Main Word Display: This central area shows you everything you need to know about the current word: the large Chinese characters, the Pinyin with tone marks, and the English definition below a separator line.
-
Character Tools: Below the characters, you'll find small buttons for practicing your writing.
- Animation: Watch an animation of the character being drawn stroke by stroke.
- Practice: Practice writing the character yourself directly on the screen (perfect for tablets with a stylus).
- Stroke Order: See a static, step-by-step image guide of the character's stroke order.
-
Navigation Bar: Use the "Previous Word" and "Next Word" buttons in the bottom bar to move through the list. When you reach the end, you'll be shown a summary screen with options to finish or restart the review session.
-
Close Button: Click the "Close" button in the top-right corner at any time to exit the activity.
