The Flashcards Activity

Flashcards are a powerful, stress-free way to practice active recall—the act of deliberately trying to remember information. This is one of the most effective methods for solidifying vocabulary in your long-term memory.

Our flashcard system is designed to be a flexible practice tool, not a test. There are no penalties for incorrect answers or using hints, so feel free to use it as often as you need to build your confidence.

Find Your Own Style

Everyone uses flashcards differently. The goal is to be honest with yourself to get the most effective practice. A common approach is to only mark a card 'correct' if you successfully remembered the meaning before flipping it or getting a hint. Adapt the process to what helps you learn best!

How to Start a Flashcard Session

You can launch a session from any supported word list. Look for the "Flashcards" button A button showing the text 'Flashcards' in the action bar, usually at the top of the list.

You can find this button on pages like:

Using the Flashcards Interface

The flashcard screen is designed for focus. It presents one card at a time, along with all the tools you need to test your memory.

Time-Saving Tip: You don't have to flip the card! If you instantly know the word, just click the tick button to mark it correct and move on.

Completing Your Session

Once you've gone through all the cards, you'll see a summary screen.

From here, you have two choices:

Tracking Your Progress

Important: After you finish a session (by clicking either "End Flashcards" or "Review again"), your Recall & Accuracy stats for all the words you just practiced will be updated. You can see these stats on pages like the HSK Board to track your long-term learning progress.
